PTA LAN update: ACTION NEEDED
We need to keep the pressure on. The next few weeks, and maybe through mid-December, are critical. There are several actions YOU can take to SEND THE MESSAGE THAT THESE CUTS MUST NOT STAND:
1) Attend Rally in Lansing - Tuesday, Nov. 10th; Lansing, Capitol steps from 10 am to Noon. Join school districts from across the state and let Lansing know we strongly oppose funding cuts that jeopardize a quality education for our children. Dr. Rezmierski and/or School Board members will also attend. Please send Anita Bartschat, LAN Representative, an email if you want to attend the Nov. 10th Rally or carpool: firstname.lastname@example.org.
2) Visit our Legislators Thursday, Nov. 12th and/or Wednesday, Nov. 18th
Details: Leave by 9:30, travel to Lansing, visit Legislators, and return before 3pm.
Parents and other community members will talk with our legislators to tell them how devastating the cuts will be to our children's education. LAN will develop talking points and other material for these visits. Dr. Rezmierski and/or School Board members will also attend. Please send Anita Bartschat, LAN Representative, an email if you want to visit on Nov. 12th and/or Nov. 18th: email@example.com.
3) CONTACT Governor Granholm and Legislative Leaders (Rep. Dillon and Sen. Bishop)
Tell them that you expect them to reinstate adequate funding for Northville Public Schools. Sample message:
"I have emailed your office and sent you a Petition, along with thousands of other outraged community members. It is simple: Restore the $4.3 million to our children's education for THIS school year. Get it done, PLEASE. I know Michigan faces a severe economic crisis and spending cuts are necessary. However, children attending Northville Public Schools cannot bear the brunt of these cuts. I do not pretend to know the best or most palatable solution, but I know there are solutions - where there is a will there is a way. I also want you to work on long-term, sustainable funding solutions for Michigan schools. Announcements from Lansing this week indicate we will be in an even worse mess next year.
Let's keep the pressure on!
